Inspired by the work of J. Krishnamurti

“If I want to understand somebody, I cannot condemn him: I must observe, study him. I must love the very thing I am studying. If you want to understand a child, you must love and not condemn him. You must play with him, watch his movements, his idiosyncrasies, his ways of behaviour; but if you merely condemn, resist, or blame him, there is no comprehension of the child. Similarly, to understand what is, one must observe what one thinks, feels and does from moment to moment.”

J. Krishnamurti

The Parents & Children Week offers a unique opportunity for families to spend time together in a creative and caring atmosphere. We come together out of a concern to explore and understand the challenging dynamics of parenting and growing up. All of us who are parents are concerned with how best to bring up our children. And the children themselves are keen to learn about themselves and their world. This world is centred on relationship and, in such a diverse group of parents and children, relationships serve to reveal our multiple facets, from which all of us can learn.
Creative activities such as painting, music, photography and theatre offer avenues of expression and interaction.

Dialogue meetings among the parents or with the children offer another context in which to explore our learning together, as do walks together in the beautiful hills. The viewing of Krishnamurti talks related to the various issues we face in our lives adds depth to our own exploration, as our questioning is viewed in a broader, more universal, context. A concern with the whole, with the wholeness of life, is central to our coming together in this affectionate and attentive environment.

For both parents and children there is opportunity for taking responsibility and collaborating. Every- one is welcome to offer activities they would like to share with the group; for example, activities related to:
• observing and listening to nature, and also to each other
• finding ways to communicate differently, perhaps by opening up broader issues
